Bespoke IKEA PAX Transformation

The Brief

The client needed a wall-to-wall storage solution for a 598cm wide bedroom wall with a ceiling height of 234cm. They wanted a sleek, fitted appearance using IKEA PAX frames but required expert modifications to ensure a perfect, custom fit — no visible gaps, no off-the-shelf compromises.

What We Did

At GRS FlatPack, we specialise in turning standard flat-pack components into high-end fitted wardrobes. Our fitters Cosmin and Sebastian cut every frame to meet the exact 234cm ceiling, and performed a bespoke width reduction on one frame and its matching door to perfectly fill the 598cm wall length.

Murphy Bed Integration

IKEA Custom PAX with Integrated Murphy Bed

The Brief

This project in Hounslow required a smart, space-saving solution: combining IKEA fitted wardrobes with a seamlessly integrated Murphy (wall) bed. Working with a room width of 360cm and a ceiling height of 242cm, the goal was to maximise storage while maintaining a clean, built-in look.

What We Did

The central feature is a hidden wall bed, carefully integrated within the wardrobe structure. When closed, the bed disappears completely — maintaining the appearance of a continuous run of custom wardrobes. When opened, it reveals a comfortable sleeping area without compromising the surrounding storage. We customised the internal layout around the Murphy bed mechanism, added infill panels with precise scribing, and ensured perfect door alignment throughout.

IKEA Wardrobe Customisation

IKEA Fitted Wardrobe — From Flat-Pack to Premium

The Brief

This project showcases how a standard storage solution can be elevated into a luxury, built-in feature. Our expert fitters Sebastian and Cosmin took on this challenge in Harrow, turning a blank wall into a seamless, high-end storage suite. The goal was to move beyond the "off-the-shelf" look and create bespoke PAX wardrobes that felt like an architectural part of the room.

Custom Craftsmanship

With a room width of 390cm and ceiling height of 252cm, precision was the priority. We added custom-cut filler panels to the sides and a top header panel, eliminating the typical gaps found in freestanding units. One of our signature moves — reversing the internal panels — hides the standard pre-drilled shelf holes from view, creating a clean, high-end cabinetry aesthetic. Sebastian and Cosmin also installed integrated LED lighting for both functional visibility and a sophisticated ambiance.

"By closing the gaps between the wardrobe and the walls, we don't just add style; we remove the 'dust traps' common with standard installs, making the room feel larger and more cohesive."

— Sebastian, Lead Fitter
  • Seamless integration — custom filler panels for floor-to-ceiling look
  • The "invisible" detail — reversed panels hiding pre-drilled holes
  • Integrated LED lighting for functional visibility and ambient glow
Why This Approach
IKEA fitted wardrobes with custom modifications allow homeowners to get the "designer look" at a fraction of the cost of traditional bespoke joinery — clever carpentry transforming affordable modular units into a luxury focal point.
